I woke at 5 and went to the beach for a surf. I’m confident now to go where the big proper waves are and to be amongst the other early morning surfers. I’m at the stage where I’m ready for a smaller more performant board, not that I’ll get rid of my blue 8ft Mick Fanning soft board, I’m sure I’ll keep this thing forever, but I’d also like to start trying getting inside the curl. I went out by myself this morning, and there were few other surfers out there; I always enjoy when I have what feels like the whole ocean to myself. I often still go out with my friend Terry, who has surfed beside me since I was a very beginner.
I came home and got the girls ready for school and sent them off. We walked down to the bus stop and the girls had baby chinos while my wife and I had a coffee each. It was just the four of us this morning, whereas often we are joined by the children’s friends and their parents. I love when it is just us. We talk about what we each expect and hope our days will be like.
I’ve got a day of writing ahead of me. I’ll also stop into the office and make sure each of the projects are all going along smoothly. We have four projects underway. There is a developer project owner on each, and they are quite independent now; my job is just to guide, and to check everything is on track, and to find out how I can help if it isn’t. Two of the projects are new — one is for a client, it’s paid-for but will be a JV, like everything that we do, the other is another community project we are doing in conjunction with the neighbourhood centre. The other two projects are steady earners and keep everyone well paid and the war chest full. We could probably leave them alone for another five years and then all retire as millionaires, but we kind of love them too and so it feels great to keep them evolving. My main project now is another game, and it has a big story component to it, which is why writing is the main thing that I’m up to lately, but I will be using the same engine from the previous one.
Last year of course was all writing. I released my book in December; my very first to be published. It’s got great reviews, but the sales are slow, which is what has inspired me to delve back into the company life a bit more this year.
Even now I don’t know if I would rather write, illustrate, code, or just sketch out the world a bit more. I think for this project I’m going to go a bit larger. Invest some of the profits that have been starting to pile up now that we have fully paid off the office building and hire a good team. I’d like to get like minded people involved, and ensure we have a shared vision that we can all build into. Almost certainly we will be building further the world of Satoria. I’m therefore already starting to think of some of the people I’d like to get involved. I’ll write a bit more about this another time soon, but I’ll leave it there for now. If you are interested in being involved then do please drop me a line and let me know.
